Moulin Rouge

Why the Moulin Rouge is a Paris tourist attraction that isn’t worth a visit

The famous Moulin Rouge is said to be a must-see on your trip to Paris. We say, NO! The Moulin Rouge is a major tourist rip-off! It’s really a shame that Paris which relies heavily on tourism to fuel its economy needs to promote cheap tourist traps. At least the Moulin Rouge shouldn’t be one of these traps!

The Moulin Rouge experience is so bad, we don’t even know where to start!

  1. If you’ve seen the movie forget about it! The venue is nothing like that in the movie. It’s more like a dark hole, the auditorium looks cheap with black glittery walls.
  2. They cram too many people in the auditorium. Visitors are seated elbow-to-elbow in small chairs and you don’t have room to turn around or move. And if you’re not average sized, you have a big problem!
  3. If you still think you must go, don’t eat there! It’s not only ridiculous expensive, but the food is cold and bland, the champagne doesn’t earn its name and the waitors are incredibly rude. Furthermore if you a vegetarian, forget it. They charge you the same price, but they just remove the meat from your plate! Don’t order another bottle of champaign, it costs €95! By the way a beer bottle costs €8!
  4. Moulin Rouge show
  5. The so-called artists seemed - though athletic - bored and demotivated. They had no grace at all, the choreography was old and stale. It seemed they were stuck in the 80s. And for that price you would expect to see performers that were singing and not lip synching.
  6. And last but not least, the price for this low-quality performance and low-quality food is exorbitant! The show ticket costs €97 and includes an almost non-drinkable half-bottle of champaign. The tickets for show and dinner start from €140. A show program costs €11! And you have to leave your jacket and camera in the cloakroom with a charge of €2 per jacket.

The whole evening is a huge rip-off. It’s nonprofessional, cheesy, sleazy, uncomfortable, much too expensive and simply disappointing! It’s not only a waste of time, but also a waste of lot of money, especially if you’re on a budget. If you’re really looking for a first class performance you rather consider going to the Paris Opera and seeing a professional dance performance there.

I must say we, my husband and I, enjoyed the show very much. It’s true that it is not a cheap evening but the dinner was excellent and worth its money. We loved it.

We also went there and although we did not eat, we enjoyed it very much. I am a big fan of the movie and no, this show did not imitate the movie at all but I did not go in thinking it was going to be the same. The performers were unbelievable in their athleticism and gave a good show. Worth the experience and maybe it is for people not on a super tight budget. I only sipped one or two from my champagne glass but I wasn’t there for the food or drink, only the EXPERIENCE of going to the Moulin Rouge.

Horrible show, waste of money. Old choreography, lip synching, bad dancing - you name it. Audience is half Asians that must visit every attraction and half Russians for whom the more expensive place is the better so they can brag about it back home. If you are 16 years old and want to see boobs then this place is for you, but there are cheaper places for it.

I was in Paris in June with my daughter. She wanted to go to the moulin rouge. The cost kept us from attending. The street that the moulin rouge is on aslo has a lot of pornography on it.

My husband and I visited Paris twice and we did walk past the Moulin Rouge just to say we saw it and walked by. No desire to visit within, just took a picture of the street and outside.

The Moulin Rouge is probably the LEAST favorite thing we did in Paris. I don’t even know how to begin to describe how bad it was. The area was dirty and sketchy. They had people waiting in line out in the cold weather in the rain. They were disorganized. The show decided to start when half the people are still outside. Checking in your coats was mandatory with a FEE. Cameras were taken away from people who had them out in the open as they went down the line to take your coat away (we’re all grown adults, if they say no pictures then that’s that, unless you break their rule, but they take your cameras away with your precious pictures in them eventhough you haven’t broken any rules). The stage was so tiny in which wasn’t proportionized to the amount of dancers they had. The dancing […] more
