Champs Elysees

Why the Champ Elysees is a Paris tourist attraction that isn’t worth a visit

Champs Elysees is the most overated avenue in Paris. It is in fact the biggest tourist trap in Paris. And therefore all you find on the Champs Elysees are tourists en masse. You won’t find many Parisians there except waitors in the cafes and shop assistants in the stores.

The Champs Elysees is a long ordinary street, crowded with people walking from store to store which are all horribly over-priced. Besides, most of the stores can be found elsewhere in the city on much nicer and less crowded streets and some offer even cheaper prices.

Fouquet'sThe cafes are absurdly expensive too. Be prepared to pay for a lukewarm coffee the exorbitant price of €10! Don’t even think of eating something there. And if you’ve heard of the famous cafe Fouquet’s, forget it! You don’t need to spend your hard-earned money there. You find lots of really authentic Parisian cafes elsewhere in the city.

As to be expected where tourists are, there are pickpockets, too. So keep your purses safe.

We recommend to plan only a very short trip to the Champs Elysees. Don’t go shopping, don’t drink coffee, don’t visit a night club, just take some pictures and move on to one of Paris more beautiful and worthy places. Don’t become a victim of Paris’s biggest tourist trap!

Attraction: Pere-Lachaise Cemetery (Cimetière du Père-Lachaise)

A walk down this avenue is the same as walking on the hundreds of other “Rodeo Drives” around the world. I didn’t really enjoy it, it wasted my time, but, it did lead us to the Tuileries…we were walking a circuitous route, otherwise we never would have gone there. Everything is priced higher to nail the tourists, the pick pockets abound..and it’s traffic addled. I agree with the site author, skip it.

We just got back from our European vacation. We stayed at this area which was very convenient to everything. Although we thought it was very expensive, especially the meals, I wouldn’t necessarily suggest to skip it. In fact, my husband and I walked down this avenue (Champs Elysees) and as we got down the street we decided to cross the street. We got stuck in the middle of the road by a red light as we were crossing. When I turned around, I saw the most memoriable view of the Arc of Triomphe just as pictured on my book I bought about Paris prior to the trip. It was a picture perfect view. Also, if you’re a Louis Vuitton fanatic, in which I am, you won’t want to miss seeing the biggest LV store in which I was told is the corporate building.

Well, at least my stay in Paris even just a short one was very enjoyable. True, lots of people walked down this avenue. i had an unforgettable experience when we were lost and try to asked a lady about the way, she answered us in french, anyway, we thank her just the same even if we didn’t understood a single word. What my sis-in-law and I did, we refer to our map. Anyway, quiet an experience.
